BiomX Presents Positive Phase 1b/2a Clinical Trial Data for BX004 at Key Conferences
GAITHERSBURG, Md. and NESS ZIONA, Israel, May 30, 2024 - BiomX Inc. (NYSE American: PHGE), a clinical-stage company specializing in the development of innovative natural and engineered phage therapies targeting specific pathogenic bacteria, has announced its participation in two upcoming conferences. BiomX will present groundbreaking data from its Phase 1b/2a study of BX004, a treatment for cystic fibrosis patients suffering from chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa pulmonary infections. The results of this study will be shared during oral presentations and poster sessions at two significant events - the 47th European Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from June 5-8, 2024, and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Microbe 2024 meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 13-17, 2024.
Cystic fibrosis is a chronic genetic disorder characterized by the accumulation of thick, sticky mucus that affects multiple organs, particularly the lungs. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common pathogenic bacteria found in the airways of cystic fibrosis patients, leading to recurrent lung infections and, ultimately, deteriorating lung function. Current therapeutic interventions often fail to fully address the persistent nature of this pulmonary infection, necessitating the exploration of alternative treatment options.
BiomX addresses this critical need through its innovative phage therapy approach. Phages, or bacteriophages, are viruses that specifically target and destroy bacteria. By harnessing the potential of natural and engineered phages, BiomX aims to deliver a personalized and precise treatment for patients suffering from stubborn bacterial infections.
The Phase 1b/2a clinical trial of BX004 involved cystic fibrosis patients with chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa pulmonary infections. The trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of BiomX’s phage therapy by measuring changes in lung function, bacterial load, and overall quality of life. Encouragingly, the data presented at the conferences demonstrated positive outcomes, suggesting the potential of BX004 as an effective treatment option.
During the 47th European Cystic Fibrosis Conference, BiomX will present its findings through oral presentations and ePosters, allowing for in-depth discussions and exchange of knowledge among researchers and healthcare professionals in attendance. This collaborative platform will foster a deeper understanding of the potential impact of BX004 in the clinical setting.
Subsequently, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Microbe 2024 meeting will provide an opportunity for BiomX to share its results in a Rapid Fire oral presentation format, enabling quick dissemination of findings, followed by a poster session open for detailed discussions during the event. ASM Microbe 2024 brings together leading scientists, clinicians, and other professionals involved in microbiology and infectious diseases, creating an ideal atmosphere for meaningful interactions and potential collaborations.
The positive data presented by BiomX at these conferences underscores the potential of BX004 as a promising therapeutic intervention for cystic fibrosis patients with chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa pulmonary infections. Further development and exploration of this phage therapy may offer new hope for patients struggling with limited treatment options.
