J.B. Hunt Expands Sustainable Transportation Fleet with Nikola FCEVs Amid Competitive Challenges’
LOWELL, Ark. ’ J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. (NASDAQ: JBHT), a leading supply chain solutions provider in North America, announced the expansion of its sustainability efforts with the acquisition of 20 Nikola Tre fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). This move aims to bolster the company’s efforts to meet growing freight needs along the West Coast while contributing to environmentally friendly transportation solutions.

The integration of these FCEVs is a strategic step for J.B. Hunt in reducing its carbon footprint and offering more eco-friendly options to its customer base.
However, this noteworthy enhancement in their fleet contrasts with J.B. Hunt’s recent financial performance. For the second quarter of 2024, the company reported a 6.51% year-on-year decrease in revenue, which exceeded the overall industry decline of just 0.1%. Despite this, J.B. Hunt achieved a net margin of 4.64%, which is higher than many of its competitors.
Digging deeper into the financials, J.B. Hunt’s net income saw a significant drop of 28.32% compared to the same quarter last year. This is in stark contrast to the average net income contraction of 7.39% experienced by its competitors. Consequently, J.B. Hunt’s market share fell slightly to 13.55% in the second quarter of 2024, down from 13.85% in the previous quarter, averaging a 14.16% share over the last 12 months.
