Avangrid’s New England Wind Projects Move Closer to Approval
Avangrid, Inc. a sustainable energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, has submitted multiple proposals for two mature offshore wind projects in New England. The projects, named New England Wind 1 and New England Wind 2, have a capacity of 791 MW and 1,080 MW respectively. These proposals were submitted as part of the Massachusetts-Connecticut-Rhode Island multi-state solicitation for offshore wind power.
Furthermore, Avangrid recently received a significant permitting milestone for its New England Wind lease area. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the project, bringing it closer to obtaining full federal approval. A Record of Decision (ROD) is expected in April 2024, along with the Construction and Operations Plan (COP).
In partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Avangrid’s Vineyard Wind 1 project has also launched its Fisheries Compensatory Mitigation Program. This program aims to provide fair and equitable compensation to commercial fishermen affected by the project.
These developments demonstrate Avangrid’s commitment to advancing clean energy in the New England region. By harnessing the potential of offshore wind, the company aims to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure.
