KakaoMobility and Archer Aviation Partner for eVTOL Aircraft Commercialization in Korea
Archer Aviation Inc. and KakaoMobility, the leading mobility as a service (MaaS) platform service company in South Korea, have announced a partnership to jointly participate in Korea’s K-UAM Grand Challenge. The agreement also entails KakaoMobility’s planned purchase of up to 50 of Archer’s Midnight eVTOL aircraft, valued at approximately $250 million.
As part of the collaboration, Archer Aviation and KakaoMobility will conduct public flight demonstrations in Korea as early as Q4 2024. This initiative aligns with South Korea’s ambitious pursuit of urban air mobility (UAM) solutions as part of the K-UAM Grand Challenge program.
Additionally, Archer Aviation has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Etihad Training, located in Abu Dhabi, to establish a partnership for recruiting and training prospective pilots for their Midnight eVTOL aircraft. This collaboration will allow Archer to train pilots in Abu Dhabi, enabling them to operate the aircraft across the United Arab Emirates.
Furthermore, Archer Aviation has achieved the Part 145 certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), authorizing the company to perform specialized aircraft repair services while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This certification solidifies Archer’s position as a leader in the eVTOL market and affirms their commitment to operating as a reputable commercial aviation business.
The partnership between KakaoMobility and Archer Aviation, combined with the collaboration with Etihad Training and the FAA certification, showcases Archer’s significant progress in the eVTOL industry. These developments pave the way for the commercialization of their Midnight eVTOL aircraft and support the growing demand for sustainable urban air transportation.
