180 Life Sciences Corp. Announces Positive Topline Results from Clinical Pharmacology Study on Novel Solid Cannabidiol Formulation’
PALO ALTO, Calif. July 30, 2024 180 Life Sciences Corp. (NASDAQ: ATNF) has recently disclosed topline results from a clinical pharmacology study evaluating a new solid formulation of cannabidiol (CBD) designed for enhanced oral bioavailability. Conducted in collaboration with Professor Avi Domb of the Hebrew University, School of Pharmacy, and Professor Elyad Davidson from Hadassah Hospital, the study aimed to elucidate the pharmacokinetic (PK) profiles of the experimental formulations in comparison to Epidiolex, an FDA-approved CBD product used to treat epilepsy.
The study engaged twelve healthy volunteers, who participated in a randomized, crossover trial that assessed the uptake of three formulations: two versions of the novel solid CBD formulation developed by 180 Life Sciences and Epidiolex. Each participant received all three formulations, allowing direct comparison of the pharmacokinetic performance across the different CBD products.
Pharmacokinetic studies are critical in understanding how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and eliminated by the body. The findings of this trial are particularly noteworthy as they represent a pioneering assessment of a solid oral formulation of CBD, which has not been extensively explored in previous clinical settings.
The results, while preliminary, suggest that the new solid formulation could provide improved oral uptake of CBD compared to Epidiolex. This has implications for patients seeking alternative dosing forms of CBD, particularly those who might benefit from a pill-based administration over liquid formats.
180 Life Sciences continues to focus on advancing its research and development pipeline, and the positive topline results from this study may pave the way for future investigations into the therapeutic potential of solid CBD formulations, particularly in areas beyond epilepsy.
As of now, the company’s corporate clients have reported no discernible revenue impact following this study. However, the potential clinical application of the new formulation could attract further investment and commercial interest, should upcoming research support the initial findings.
The study’s outcomes have been eagerly anticipated, reflecting the increasing interest in cannabinoid-based therapies and their delivery forms amid the evolving landscape of pharmaceutical developments. Further detailed results and analyses are expected to be published in subsequent scientific forums. This article presents a comprehensive overview of the facts gathered from the recent announcement regarding 180 Life Sciences’ clinical study on CBD, emphasizing the significance of these findings in the broader context of pharmaceutical research and development.
