Steel Dynamics Inc's Comment on Sales, Marketing and Customers

The principal customers for structural steel products include steel service centers, steel fabricators, and various manufacturers. The steel rail markets in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico involve seven Class I railroads and an extensive distribution network. SBQ products are used by cold finishers, forgers, intermediate processors, OEM manufacturers, steel service centers, distributors, and Vulcan. MBQ products are primarily sold to steel service centers, reinforcing steel bar distributors, joist producers such as New Millennium Building Systems, and OEMs. Excess steel billet from Roanoke Bar Division is sold to mills including Steel of West Virginia, which also supplies angles to steel fabrication operations. Steel of West Virginia’s customers mainly consist of OEMs producing solar panel structures, truck trailers, industrial lift trucks, merchant products, guardrail posts, manufactured housing, mining, and off-highway construction equipment, with an emphasis on custom and low-volume products, particularly for the truck trailer and industrial lift truck industries. The metals recycling operations serve steel mills and aluminum operations across North America, accounting for 11% of consolidated net sales. Export sales represent 14-19% of segment net sales from 2023 to 2025. Metals shipped include ferrous and nonferrous metals, with a significant portion of ferrous metals shipped to the company’s steel mills.
