Compass Minerals International Inc's Comment on Sales, Marketing and Customers

The company's principal customers include states, provinces, counties, municipalities, and road maintenance contractors purchasing bulk deicing salt for ice control on public roadways. In North America, highway deicing salt is primarily sold through annual tendered bid contracts with governmental entities and multi-year contracts, while in the UK some sales occur through negotiated contracts. The company operates approximately 80 depots in North America, mainly located along the Great Lakes and the Mississippi and Ohio River systems. The Ogden facility supplies customers in the Western and upper Midwest United States. Treated rock salt is distributed throughout these markets. The company is a key supplier to the UK's Highways Agency, with about 75% of UK highway deicing customers holding multi-year contracts. Approximately two-thirds of deicing product sales take place during the North American and European winter months. Most North American deicing sales occur in Canada and the Midwestern United States. Principal chemical customers produce intermediate chemical products for vinyls, pulp and paper, water treatment, and other industrial uses, typically under multi-year supply agreements. Consumer and industrial products accounted for 37% of fiscal 2025 Salt segment sales, including water conditioning, ice control, food processing, agricultural applications, table salt, and other industrial uses. The company is the third largest producer of consumer and industrial salt products in North America and is among the largest private-label producers of water conditioning salt in North America and table salt in Canada.
