Farmer Brothers Co's Comment on Supply Chain

The company sources green coffee, an exchange-traded agricultural commodity, from multiple coffee regions worldwide. Some Arabica coffee beans are purchased through negotiated agreements with coffee brokers, exporters, and growers, including Direct Trade and Fair Trade Certified™ sources, as well as Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms. Fair Trade Certified™ ensures that farmer groups receive minimum prices and premiums for organic products through cooperatives. Direct Trade arrangements are made directly with individual growers, providing price premiums and technical assistance. Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffee is produced using sustainable methods that promote biodiversity and resource conservation. The company utilizes packaging materials such as carton board, corrugate, and plastic, and consumes electricity, natural gas, and other energy sources for production and distribution. Its business model seeks to mitigate green coffee price fluctuations through customer arrangements, vendor agreements, and derivative instruments.
