Alpha Metallurgical Resources Inc's Comment on Supply Chain

The company depends significantly on third-party suppliers for mining materials and equipment, including raw materials, maintenance and repair services, electricity, and roof control and support items. Although industry consolidation has reduced the number of suppliers for certain equipment and supplies, the company maintains that adequate alternative suppliers are available. In the first quarter of 2023, the company acquired coal trucks, related equipment, and facilities to secure trucking services. In December 2022, it purchased substantially all assets of a mining equipment component manufacturing and rebuild business to ensure the supply of underground mining equipment parts. The company incurs substantial annual expenses for goods and services supporting business operations and capital expenditures, utilizing suppliers for equipment rebuilds, repairs, construction, and reclamation activities. A centralized sourcing group oversees sourcing policy and strategy, focusing on major supplier contract negotiation and administration, fostering competition among suppliers, and pursuing continuous improvements to reduce costs and enhance quality and service.
