The company operates globally, selling products directly to customers with a focus on retail, service, and charging infrastructure to support adoption. It has two primary segments: automotive and energy generation and storage. The automotive segment encompasses the design, manufacturing, sales, and leasing of electric vehicles, sales of automotive regulatory credits, used vehicles, maintenance services, collision repairs, paid Supercharging, automotive insurance, parts, and merchandise. The energy segment involves sales, leasing, financing, services, and incentives related to energy products. The company manufactures five consumer vehicles: Model 3 (mid-size sedan), Model Y (compact SUV), Model S (full-size sedan), Model X (mid-size SUV), and Cybertruck (full-size electric pickup). In 2022, production began on the Tesla Semi, a commercial electric vehicle. The company develops Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology and launched a Robotaxi autonomous ride-hailing service in June 2025, currently operating with Model Y vehicles and planning to include Cybercab, a purpose-built autonomous vehicle. The Robotaxi service is intended to expand the customer base and support a service-driven business model based on artificial intelligence, software, and fleet profits.
