The Company operates in the electricity generation, transmission, and distribution sectors, as well as in natural gas distribution, transportation, and storage services. Its business segments include electric operations through Montana-Dakota, natural gas distribution via Montana-Dakota, Cascade, and Intermountain, and pipeline services through WBI Energy. The Company conducts its operations through wholly-owned subsidiaries, including MDU Energy Capital, Montana-Dakota, Cascade, Intermountain, Centennial, WBI Energy, and Centennial Capital. These businesses are regulated by state public service commissions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Company completed the separations of Knife River and Everus, which are now independent publicly traded companies. As of December 31, 2025, the Company employed 2,096 individuals, many of whom are represented by collective bargaining agreements with unions such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) at Montana-Dakota and the United Association (UA) at Intermountain.
