GCI Holdings provides communication services primarily in Alaska under the GCI brand, serving businesses, governmental entities, educational institutions, and medical institutions. The company operates in challenging market conditions characterized by harsh winter weather and remote geography. As of December 31, 2025, GCI Holdings exited the video business. Its infrastructure includes undersea fiber optic cable systems and a statewide wireless network. The company participates in federally and locally subsidized programs to support telecommunications in high-cost and rural areas of Alaska, receiving federal grants for broadband infrastructure expansion. In 2025, GCI Holdings received 6% of the Universal Service Fund program to support services for approximately 180 rural health care providers, 235 schools, and 139,000 rural wireless residents. Revenue in 2025 was primarily derived from data services (71%), wireless services (24%), and other services (5%).
