The company also operates one of the largest wholesale vehicle auction businesses, with 538,203 vehicles sold in fiscal 2026. CarMax provides used vehicle financing, servicing approximately 1.0 million customer accounts with a $16.37 billion auto loan portfolio as of February 28, 2026. The company operates 256 used car stores across 110 U.S. television markets and offers an omni-channel purchasing experience, allowing customers to buy vehicles online, in-store, or through a combination of both. Customers can separately evaluate and accept or decline components of the sales process, including vehicle purchase, related products, services, and financing options, all at no-haggle prices. The acquisition of Edmunds Holding Company has enhanced CarMax's digital capabilities and presence in the used auto ecosystem. CarMax operates through two segments: CarMax Sales Operations, which manages auto merchandising and services excluding financing, and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF), which provides financing to customers purchasing retail vehicles from CarMax.
