The United States has implemented a ban on Russian uranium imports effective January 1, 2028, with a phased approach beginning August 11, 2024. In August 2025, the DOE's Office of Nuclear Energy established the Defense Production Act (DPA) Consortium to develop action plans ensuring capacity across the nuclear fuel supply chain, including mining, milling, conversion, and enrichment.
