Star Group L P's Comment on Supply Chain

The company purchases petroleum products in barge, pipeline, or truckload quantities and maintains contracts with approximately 137 third-party terminal sites for temporary storage. Home heating oil and propane are acquired through supply contracts or the spot market. For the fiscal 2026 heating season, about 76% of home heating oil and propane requirements are covered by physical supply contracts based on NYMEX, Platts American Gulf Coast, or Mont Belvieu indices, with approximately 63% of contracted home heating oil volume containing a biofuel component. Approximately 48% of expected diesel and gasoline requirements for fiscal 2026 are covered by physical supply contracts linked to NYMEX or Platts American Gulf Coast indices. In fiscal 2025, Motiva Enterprises LLC accounted for about 16% and Global Companies LLC about 14% of petroleum purchases. In fiscal 2024, Shell Trading and Shell Oil Products US provided about 16%, and Motiva Enterprises LLC about 15% of petroleum purchases. For fiscal 2026, approximately 24% of physical supply contracts are with Shell Trading and Shell Oil Products US. Supply contracts typically have durations of 6 to 12 months, specify minimum quantities, and base prices on published index prices plus an agreed differential rather than fixing prices in advance. The company contracts with diverse suppliers, including Global Companies LLC, Motiva Enterprises LLC, Shell Oil Products US, and Shell Trading, to mitigate supply shortages. Price volatility in liquid products such as home heating oil, propane, and motor fuels affects the business, particularly when prices rise and influence customer behavior. The price of home heating oil is affected by economic and geopolitical factors and is closely linked to diesel fuel prices as measured by NYMEX.
