Business Description
Canterbury Park Holding Corporation is the holding company for and parent company of two subsidiaries, Canterbury Park Entertainment LLC and Canterbury Development and an indirect subsidiary Canterbury Park Concessions, Inc. which is wholly-owned by Canterbury Entertainment.
Our company is divided into four divisions: horse racing, card casino, food and beverage, and real estate development. Our pari-mutuel wagering operations on simulcast and live horse races are represented by the horse racing segment; our unbanked card operations are represented by the Card Casino segment; our concessions, catering, and events services are represented by the food and beverage segment; and our real estate development operations are represented by the development segment. Canterbury Entertainment is responsible for I horse racing, (ii) card casino, and (iii) food and beverage. Canterbury Development is in charge of our real estate development.
At our Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Casino site in Shakopee, Minnesota, about 25 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis, we provide pari-mutuel wagering on thoroughbred and quarter horse races, as well as "unbanked" card games. The Racetrack is the only live pari-mutuel thoroughbred and quarter horse racing venue in the state of Minnesota. Our pari-mutuel wagering activities include year-round gambling on races contested at out-of-state racetracks that are aired concurrently at the Racetrack. The Card Casino at the Racetrack hosts unbanked card games in which clients play against one another.
The Companys horse racing activities include year-round simulcasting of horse races from around the United States and overseas, as well as seasonal gambling on live thoroughbred and quarter horse races ("live meets") that run from May to September. Various parts of our activities at the Racetrack are subject to approval by the MRC and the Minnesota Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association ("MHBPA"), which represents the majority of the owners and trainers of the horses who race at the Racetrack.
The Card Casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has two types of unbanked card games: poker and table games.
The poker room now offers Texas Hold Em, Stud, and Omaha poker games with betting amounts ranging from $2 to $100 each hand. A Company-hired dealer oversees the games play at each table and deals the cards, but does not take part in it. In poker games, the Company is permitted to deduct a percentage of the total wagers and impose various fees in exchange for hosting the activity, but it has no stake in the games result. For every game, the Company may offer additional prizes, rewards, or money.
We derive revenue from our food and beverage operations through sales at concession stands, restaurant and buffet, bars, and other food venues. The Company currently offers two, year-round caf' style restaurants and full service bars within the Card Casino and simulcast area. The Card Casino offers tableside menu service generally 24 hours a day. Our Triple Crown Club offers lounge services along with a buffet restaurant. During live racing, a wide variety of concession style food and beverage options are available to our guests.
