As of 2025, it manages 1,432 supermarkets, with 33 additional stores under construction. In 2025, the Company opened 52 supermarkets, remodeled 89, and closed 10. Its competitors include traditional supermarkets—national and regional chains as well as independent stores—and nontraditional retailers such as supercenters, membership warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, dollar stores, drug stores, specialty food stores, restaurants, convenience stores, and online retailers. Customer attraction and retention are influenced by factors including quality, price, convenience, product assortment, and store location. Seasonal sales typically increase from November to April due to winter residents in Florida and holiday shopping, while weather events like hurricanes can affect sales. The Company is the largest employee-owned company in the United States, with over 260,000 employees as of 2025, and supports employee development and community involvement through initiatives such as Publix Serves.
