CF Industries’ Plant City complex consumes over three million tons of phosphate rock annually. Sulfur, a critical component for producing sulfuric acid and, subsequently, phosphoric acid, is also an essential input. CF’s Plant City facility has a high demand for sulfur, with annual consumption around 800,000 long tons when operating at full capacity.
Distribution
For nitrogen fertilizers, the Donaldsonville complex features extensive distribution capabilities, including a deep-water dock, truck and rail loading, and access to an ammonia shipping pipeline. The distribution network enables the company to efficiently ship products domestically and for export.
The phosphate segment also has a strategic distribution network, with a warehouse at a deep-water port facility in Tampa, Florida. Products from Plant City are transported to this warehouse for further distribution to domestic and export customers.
Competition
CF Industries operates in a highly competitive market, characterized by price competition, customer service, and product quality. In the nitrogen fertilizer sector, other significant competitors include Agrium, Koch Nitrogen, and Terra Industries, along with imported products from regions with low natural gas costs.
