World Wrestling Entertainment Inc
Weve been in the sports entertainment business for four decades, and WWE has grown to become one of the most popular companies in the world today. We primarily produce and distribute unique and creative content through a variety of channels, including our premium over-the-top network, which is monetized through license agreements or direct-to-consumer subscriptions, premium live event programming, filmed entertainment, live events, licensing of various WWE themed products, and the sale of consumer products featuring our brands.
The Media division encompasses the creation and marketing of long- and short-form video content across a variety of channels, including the WWE Network, broadcast and pay television, internet and social media, and cinematic entertainment. Content rights payments, WWE Network subscriptions, and advertising and sponsorships are the main sources of revenue across various channels. Content license payments and some pooled sponsorship income from NBC Universal ("NBCU") fund WWE Networks domestic monetization. The upfront revenue recognition linked to the distribution of certain intellectual property rights under this agreement is included in the media segment revenues.
For our media channels, live events provide on-going content. Ticket sales, income from events for which we get a set fee, and sales of travel packages related with the Companys worldwide live events make up the majority of the Live Event segments revenues.
Weve developed a global licensing scheme that allows us to use our trademarks and logos, as well as copyrighted works and characters, on a wide range of items, including video games, toys, clothes, and books. We now work with more than 100 licensees across the world who sell our items at major shops. We retain creative approval over the design, packaging, advertising, and promotional materials related with these items in order to maintain the distinctive style and quality of our intellectual property and brand. In addition, we are always looking for new ways to collaborate with best-in-class businesses to create new goods for our fans and increase our licensing business.
