In that quarter, it sold substantially all assets of its Pharmaceutical Development segment. Following the sale, the company's operations are focused exclusively on the Finance Receivables segment. Customers in this segment include outside investors and investment management clients with interests in healthcare-related companies. The company competes with non-bank financial institutions, federal or state-chartered banks, venture debt funds, venture capital funds, private equity funds, pharmaceutical royalty and other investment funds, business development companies, and investment banks. Competition in the Finance Receivables segment is less intense for transactions under $50.0 million. Previously, competition in the Pharmaceutical Development segment included large multinational contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), smaller specialized CDMOs, and the in-house capabilities of pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
