National Grid plc operates in the UK and US energy markets. In the UK, it manages the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales, linking generators, storage, large customers, and distribution networks. It also owns and operates the largest electricity distribution network in the UK, serving 20 million people across the East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, and South Wales. In the US, National Grid operates electricity transmission, electricity distribution, and gas distribution networks in New York, serving 4.2 million customers (1.7 million electric and 2.5 million gas), as well as electricity and gas distribution networks in Massachusetts, serving 2.3 million customers. Additionally, it operates electricity transmission networks across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. National Grid Ventures develops and operates large-scale energy projects in the UK and US, including electricity interconnectors between the UK and Europe, US competitive transmission, power generation, and battery storage. Other activities include National Grid Partners, the corporate venture capital and innovation division, along with UK property and insurance operations.
