Waste Connections Inc's Comment on Supply Chain

In Canada, regulations mandate that suppliers maintain minimum renewable content in gasoline and diesel fuels and progressively reduce the carbon intensity (CI) of these fuels from 2023 through 2030. Compliance is facilitated through a credit market, where credits correspond to lifecycle CO2e emission reductions. Credits can be generated by projects that lower the lifecycle CI of fossil fuels, supply low carbon fuels, or provide fuel or energy to advanced vehicle technologies. Additionally, regulations concerning Naturally Occurring Radioactive Metals (NORM) impact equipment and waste management in exploration and production (E&P) operations, potentially resulting in significant costs if contaminated waste or equipment are improperly handled. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations require manufacturers or suppliers to assume waste management or recycling obligations for their products, with states such as Maine and Oregon having enacted such regulations.
