Emera Incorporated's Comment on Supply Chain


Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) is the primary electricity supplier in Nova Scotia, regulated by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSEB) under the Public Utilities Act. NSPI owns 2,422 MW of generating capacity, comprising coal/oil, natural gas/oil, hydro, wind, solar, petcoke, and biomass sources. The company operates two 50 MW grid-scale battery facilities and holds contracts to purchase renewable energy from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and COMFIT participants, who collectively own 573 MW of capacity. NSPI has rights to 153 MW of Maritime Link capacity, with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (NLH) obligated to supply approximately 900 GWh of energy annually over 35 years, plus additional energy blocks until March 31, 2026. Through the Energy Access Agreement, NSPI can purchase additional market-priced energy from NLH, with access to up to 1.8 TWh annually through August 31, 2041.
