The company is a leading provider of global IT and telecommunication services to multinational companies under the brand Orange Business Services. Orange has its origins in the Ministry for Mail, Telegraphs and Telephone, and was renamed France Telecom in 1991. The company's area of activity and its regulatory and competitive environment have undergone significant changes since the 1990s, and in response, the company has undertaken several strategic investments, including the acquisition of the mobile operator Orange Plc and its brand created in 1994, and the acquisition of a controlling stake in Polandes incumbent operator, Telekomunikacja Polska.

The company has also diversified its business, entering the mobile financial services sector through the acquisition of Groupama Banque, now Orange Bank, in 2016.
Orange has adopted the Orange brand in most of the countries where it operates, offering the full range of its telephony services under the Orange brand. Corporate services are primarily offered under the brand Orange Business Services. The company has been listed on Euronext Paris and the New York Stock Exchange since 1997.
