Business Description


Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is a South Korean public electric utility company, which was founded in 1961 as a government-owned corporation. Today, KEPCO is the largest electric utility company in Korea, and one of the largest in the world, with a total capacity of 98.2 GW, and assets of $145.3 billion as of 2021. KEPCO's primary objective is to generate, distribute and supply reliable electricity to households and industries in Korea and worldwide.

KEPCO has more than 45,000 employees, and is headquartered in the city of Naju, South Korea. The corporation operates 23 nuclear power units and over 80 thermal power plants. KEPCO has a total generating capacity of 83.1 GW from thermal power plants, 18.6 GW from nuclear power plants, and2 GW from hydro power plants. The company is also exploring opportunities in renewable energy, with a target of achieving 20% of its total generation from renewables by 2030.

KEPCO is the sole provider of electricity in South Korea, and is responsible for the transmission, distribution and retail of electricity within the country. The company's total electricity sales reached 556.8 billion kWh in 2020, serving over 28 million customers. KEPCO is also involved in the international business of building, operating and maintaining power plants, transmission lines, and distribution systems in various countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, and many others.
