The company provides a human-centered spaceflight experience for individual customers, featuring a multi-day program that culminates in a spaceflight offering weightlessness and views of Earth. Their spaceflight system operates from a runway for both takeoff and landing, emphasizing safety and comfort. Commercial operations are conducted from the Gateway to Space facility at Spaceport America in New Mexico, the first purpose-built commercial spaceflight launch site and training center. Key milestones include the inaugural flight of their spacecraft VSS Unity in 2018 from Mojave, California, and the first flight from New Mexico in 2021. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted the company the first license to carry spaceflight participants for a spaceline. Notable missions include Unity-22, which featured founder Sir Richard Branson, and Galactic 01, a research mission funded by the Italian government that tested 13 experiments. Subsequent commercial research missions—Galactic 05, Galactic 06, and Galactic 07—further demonstrated the system's research capabilities. By June 2024, the company completed seven commercial spaceflights, with Galactic 07 marking the final flight of VSS Unity. The company is developing next-generation spaceflight vehicles, with test flights planned for the third quarter of 2026 and commercial service expected to resume in the fourth quarter of 2026, including private astronaut spaceflights shortly thereafter.
