The 2014 population of the Augusta-Richmond County, GA-SC MSA was 583,632, the second largest in Georgia and fourth largest in South Carolina. The Augusta market area has a diversified economy based principally on government, public utilities, health care, manufacturing, construction, and wholesale and retail trade. Augusta is one of the leading medical centers in the Southeast. Significant medical facilities include Augusta University Medical Center, University Hospital, Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Dwight D.
