The Honest Company was founded in 2011 by actress Jessica Alba, along with Brian Lee, Sean Kane, and Christopher Gavigan. The company's mission was to provide safe, non-toxic products for families and children, after Alba's personal experience with allergic reactions and concerns with harmful ingredients in baby products.

Initially offering diapers and wipes, The Honest Company expanded its product line to include household cleaning and personal care items. The company gained popularity quickly, with a valuation of $1 billion by 2015.

However, The Honest Company faced criticism and lawsuits over the years, including claims of false advertising and misleading labeling on its products. The company underwent several leadership changes and restructuring, including the departure of Alba as CEO in 2017.
