Formation and History:
WestRock was established on March 6, 2015, as a result of a strategic combination between RockTenn and MeadWestvaco (MWV). This merger was finalized on July 1, 2015, making RockTenn and MWV wholly-owned subsidiaries of WestRock. RockTenn was designated as the accounting acquirer in this combination, marking the beginning of WestRock as a unified entity in the paper and packaging industry.
Capabilities and Products:
WestRock is one of the largest integrated producers of containerboard, measured by tons produced, and ranks among the top producers of high-graphics preprinted linerboard in North America. Our operations include integrated corrugated solutions in North America, Brazil, and India. We are also recognized as one of the largest paper recyclers in North America, with our recycling initiatives supplying the majority of recycled fiber for our mills as well as for external clients. In Brazil, we own forestlands that contribute virgin fiber to our operations.
We have developed an integrated corrugated packaging system that primarily manufactures containerboard, corrugated sheets, and preprinted linerboard. These products are sold to manufacturers of consumer and industrial goods, as well as to corrugated box manufacturers. Our diverse range of high-quality corrugated containers is designed to protect, ship, store, and display various products, tailored to our customers merchandising and distribution specifications. Our corrugated products range from simple one-color protective cartons to vibrant, graphically enhanced point-of-purchase packaging.
Our plants cater to local businesses, regional players, and large national accounts, with our corrugated packaging being utilized for a variety of sectors, including food, paper, health and beauty products, as well as other household, consumer, commercial, and industrial applications.

Beyond packaging products, WestRock provides innovative packaging solutions to assist customers in promoting and selling their products. We offer a suite of services, including structural and graphic design, engineering services, and the development of custom automated packaging machines. Our comprehensive offerings include turn-key installation, automation, line integration, and a wide variety of packaging solutions tailored to our clients’ specific needs.
Operations:
WestRock operates integrated mills that produce both virgin and recycled fiber paperboard. Our converting operations manufacture various products, including folding and beverage cartons, displays, and interior partitions. Our system of mills produces paperboard for our internal converting operations as well as for third-party clients. We also generate coated natural kraft, bleached paperboard, and coated recycled paperboard, which are sold to manufacturers of various paperboard products. Additionally, we produce specialty recycled paperboard for applications such as solid fiber packaging, tubes, cores, and book covers.
