110 industries, 290 fields per period and 20+ years of history. See how industry aggregates are calculated, what every ratio class measures, and how to get the data on the web, through AI with the CSIMarket MCP server, or through the REST API.
CSIMarket's Industry Benchmarking Dataset. Know exactly where a company stands in its industry. 110 industries across 13 sectors, mapped to SIC and NAICS. 290 fields per period, with 20+ years of history. Industry figures are true aggregates: total operating income, divided by total revenue. So every company carries its real weight. Only companies with complete reported results for every quarter in the window are included, even in trailing-twelve-month (TTM) figures. Industry figures always refer to the latest reporting period, and show how many companies in the group have already reported. For example, early in a cycle, only 1.54 percent of the total market may have reported. As more companies report, their results are added, and the industry numbers change. So early figures are preliminary, and firm up as the cycle completes. Take semiconductors as an example: over a hundred companies, from mega caps to micro caps, each one feeding the industry benchmark. Every ratio is delivered with its statistics. The industry value is a true aggregate. The median, and the 10th to 90th percentiles, show how individual companies are spread. Standard deviation, interquartile range and skewness measure dispersion. And cross-industry percentiles and z-scores rank each industry against all the others. Growth. 128 fields. Revenue, operating income, net income and free cash flow growth, year over year. Acceleration shows whether growth is speeding up or slowing down. 3- and 5-year compound growth rates, volatility and trend. And breadth: the share of companies actually growing, so you know if growth is broad, or driven by a few. Profitability. 45 fields. Gross margin shows pricing power. Operating and EBITDA margins measure profit from core operations. Pre-tax, net and free cash flow margins show what is left for shareholders, and how much of it is cash. Plus the effective tax rate, and how each margin is changing, and how stable it is. Valuation. 35 fields. Price to earnings, sales, book value and cash flow. Enterprise value to EBITDA and to sales, which take debt into account. Earnings and free cash flow yields. And 5-year averages and z-scores, to see whether an industry is cheap or expensive versus its own history. Financial strength. 34 fields. Current, quick and cash ratios measure short-term liquidity. Debt to equity, debt to assets and leverage show how the balance sheet is financed. Interest coverage and cash flow to debt show the ability to service that debt. And the Altman Z-score flags distress risk. Efficiency. 18 fields. Revenue and profit per employee. Asset turnover: sales generated per dollar of assets. Days sales outstanding, how fast customers pay. Days inventory, how long stock sits. Days payables. And the cash conversion cycle: how many days cash is tied up in operations. Management effectiveness. 30 fields. Return on equity, on assets, and on invested capital. Incremental return on new capital. A DuPont breakdown of return on equity into margin, turnover and leverage. Cash conversion ratios that test earnings quality. And the retention ratio and sustainable growth rate. Company data links back to the benchmark. Every company ratio comes with its gap to the industry, so outperformers and laggards stand out at once. Plot gross margin against return on capital, and the leaders stand out instantly. And because size matters, compare a company with peers of similar size, not just with the industry giants. On the website, open any industry and scroll through its history, quarter by quarter, or year by year. One click on Download as CSV, and the full table is on your computer. The easiest way to work with the dataset is AI. Connect the CSIMarket MCP server, and simply ask for the report you need. Any industry, any of the 290 fields, and any period: trailing twelve months, quarterly, or fiscal years, with over 20 years of history. Your AI fetches the data, and delivers the report in the format you want: Excel, CSV, PDF, or slides. Complete with charts like the ones in this catalog: trends, distributions, and size comparisons. Developers pull the same data straight from the REST API, and integrate it into any system. In banking, for example, it feeds the analytics layer: data warehouses, data lakes and analytics engines, rather than the transactional core banking system. Or build your own custom projects on top of it. CSIMarket. The Industry Benchmarking Dataset.
